PERUGIA & ASSISI
Visit these two stunning cities of Umbria region: the beautiful medieval city of Perugia, famous for its views and its chocolate, and Assisi, hometown of Saint Francis and one of Christianity's capitals with the marvellous Basilica.
The city of Perugia is located 1.5 hours from Florence. We will drive to the city center where you can explore its small charming streets and chocolate shops. Our suggestion is to hire one of the excellent local guides we work with* in order to truly appreciate all the details and history. The square at the edge of the center has a beautiful view over the whole Umbria region. From Perugia we reach the city of Assisi, where you can visit the fort at the top of the city, the rough-stone buildings slowly descending to the center, its splendid churches and, finally, the Basilica of Saint Francis, architectural jewel and extremely important building for Christian religion. Giotto frescos inside the Basilica are some of the best preserved of all the Middle Ages period.
Adding extra hours or skipping one of the two we can go to the town of Cortona, splendid medieval town, with an important Etruscan art museum and amazing views over half of Tuscany. The town is also known for being the home of the writer of “Under the tuscan sun” bestseller, Frances Mayes.
