VALDORCIA EXPERIENCE
Considered the most beautiful countryside of Italy, the Unesco site of the Valdorcia includes also some of the most enchanting italian medieval towns such as Montepulciano, Pienza and Montalcino with its worldwide famous wine, the Brunello. The Valdorcia is actually a valley just in front of these beautiful towns which are all located on hilltops with views over the valley itself.
Early in the morning we reach the town of Montepulciano. Here you can visit the spectacular temple-cathedral of San Biagio, the beautiful town center and the Underground City. This is a reticular system of channels underground, once ancient Etruscan tombs, then transformed into a place for hiding and living during the invasions of the middle ages and now wine cellars. From Montepulciano we reach the farm-restaurant of Podere il Casale to see how the famous Pecorino cheese (and many others) are made. Lunch there with some of the most beautiful views of the area. After lunch visit the “ideal town” of Pienza, a Renessaince architectural jewel and also capital for the Pecorino cheese in Tuscany. In the afternoon reach the town of Montalcino for other spectacular views over the Senese clay hills and Brunello wine tasting in a small family-run winery of the area.
Adding some extra hours you will have the possibility of visiting the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, a spiritually magical medieval church and also the tiny but charming town of Bagno Vignoni with its hot spring water pool in the main square.
